UCSF Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Social Anxiety Group

This group for transgender and gender expansive teens meets weekly for ten sessions. The interactive group helps teens gain a better undestanding of their anxiety and develop skills to manage social anxiety. The group also focuses on real and perceived challenges experiences by transgender and gender expansive teens, and provides social support through other group members. UCSF Body Image Group

This group is offered through the UCSF Eating Disorders Program but is open to all teens ages 14-18 who are struggling with body image concerns. The group is trans affirming and offers the best evidence-based interventions for improving body image, primarily informed by cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. Through group discussions and homework assignments, participants will learn to (1) challenges unrealistic appearance ideals, (2) build skills for reducing body image distress, and (3) cultivate a practice of self-compassion and acceptance. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact one of your Gender Psychiatry Program providers through MyChart.

Bay Area Parent & Family Support Groups

Support groups for the parents of transgender and gender expansive youth are available through The Spahr Center and PLFAG chapters. The Gender Psychiatry Program also works with community therapists who offer these groups. Please contact one of your Gender Psychiatry Program providers through MyChart if you need assistance connecting with a family support group.
